Showtune Sunday: All about Liza!

Had a sensational time at Hollywood Bowl last night where Liza Minnelli performed for an adoring crowd of more than 12,000 people.

I had never before seen Liza live and boy, this lady is a charmer.

The show began about 40 minutes late due to a problem with the microphones and as we waited, Liza told us over the loudspeakers that she was chomping at the bit to get out there and be with us soon.

That’s her magic, her connection to the crowd. Loved her patter between songs as much as the singing as she talked about her friend Marvin Hamlisch who died last week, about the great Kander and Ebb, about her godfather Ira Gershwin.

It’s true, her voice isn’t what it used to be. But you root for her to hit those big notes and sometimes she does. But she’s a showbiz legend for a reason – she knows how to sell a song, how to tell a story and you are with her every step of the way.

I found videos from throughout the years of some of the songs Liza performed last night including two from her album, Confessions.

Enjoy!!!
