Showtune Sunday: All About Dusty Springfield!

For more than a few decades now, I go through a Dusty Springfield phase where I start playing Dusty in Memphis again … and again … and again.

I just love this amazingly talented woman who left us far too soon – in 1999 just shy of her 60th birthday.

She left behind a beautiful body of work.

I especially love her big hair TV appearances in the 60s and have several of them here for you to enjoy.

Happy Sunday!

4 Remarks

  1. Seeing Dusty again and hearing all the Everly Brothers tributes on the news makes me long for that era of music again, and even that era in time in general. People were so much kinder and nicer and life wasn’t as hectic, and the music was awesome….and timeless.

  2. I’m NEVER out of my Dusty Springfield phase. I saw her live here in L.A. once where she opened for Peter Allen. Went to the after-party and had a chance to chat with her a bit. HEAVEN!

No one REMOTELY like her — a lesbian who was a HUGE stylistic influence on gay men, particularly drag queens.

There’s a great essay about her in the book “The Queer Sixties”(Routledge, 199)

  3. Thanks, Greg.

  4. The Look of Love…well, Dusty definitely has got ‘The Look’.
