Showtime Sunday: A tribute to Betty Buckley

http://cabaretdc.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/bettyspan.jpg

http://www.sondheimguide.com/graphics/buckchild.jpgWhen you hear Betty Buckley sing, there is no mistaking it for anybody else.

This lady is one of a kind.

She had appeared on Broadway in Pippin and 1776 before gaining widespread fame as Abby Bradford on ABC’s Eight is Enough. When the show left the air in 1981, it was back to Broadway and the Tony-winning role of Grizabella in Cats.

Other shows followed including Song and Dance, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Triumph of Love and as a smash replacement for Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard.

She’s recorded many albums and performs in concerts and shows around the world and has legions for fans – including me!

The New York Times described Miss Buckley as “at the very top of her game” during the four-week run of her show For the Love of Broadway at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency in February.

Here are some performances from throughout the years:

3 Remarks

  1. You’re good, really good, the thread really brings back some great memories of a woman who IMO has never received the full credit she should have for a talent that is above and beyond many who have been on Broadway.

  2. Gotta love Betty! :)

  3. I was fortunate enough to see her show at Feinstein’s. While the voice and musicality were marvelous (of course!), what impressed me most was the honesty of her performance. She was brilliant!
