Shawn Pyfrom to leave Desperate Housewives?
If reports about Shawn Pyfrom leaving Desperate Housewives are true, you really can’t blame the kid – he probably wants to act!
As sociopathic gay teen Andrew Van de Kamp, Shawn had one of the best roles in television during the first two seasons of the show. Then Andrew went from being one of the most highly-visible gay characters on television to glorified extra for much of seasons three and four. He was seen a bit more again last season when action on Wisteria Lane leaped forward five years and Andrew got a boyfriend and helped his mother, Bree (Marcia Cross) manage her Martha Stewart-like empire.
But Desperate Housewives has a huge ensemble cast with the first priority going to the show’s five main women: Cross, Teri Hatcher, Evas Longoria, Felicity Huffman and Dana Delaney. Even original star Nicolette Sheridan found her role reduced and her character finally killed off last season.
“Shawn’s not returning for a full season next fall,” a source tells PEOPLE. “But he’ll come back and make a few guest star appearances. His decision didn’t come easy, but he wants to pursue new television and film opportunities.”
Just 22, Shawn has a great future ahead of him because he is a really terrific actor.
