See Robin Roberts and Ellen DeGeneres movingly pay tribute to each other for being out
I just love that two of the most successful women on television these days – Ellen DeGeneres and Robin Roberts - are out and proud lesbians.
Sure, Good Morning America host Robin took a long time to join Ellen who came out way back in 1997 but she got there and God bless her.
Robin was on Ellen’s show today and said that it was her public coming out 17 years ago that helped her to have discussions with her own mother about being gay.
‘My mother was so angry at the way you were treated,’ Robin told Ellen whose ABC sitcom was canceled the year she came out both as a character on her show and in her personal life.
‘Ellen, you were such a trailblazer,’ she told her old friend. ‘You have helped a lot of people like myself have that discussion with their families because you are so well respected and loved. It’s really helped a lot of us and I thank you for that.’
Ellen is equally thankful to Robin: ‘It’s wonderful to have somebody whose had the courage and strength to do it and be another face for “Look! We are successful, happy people who can fall in love and deserve everything that everyone else has.’
