See Lily Tomlin’s very candid backstage interview at the SAG Awards about Trump and Nazis

When Lily Tomlin accepted her SAG Life Achievement Award she joked onstage that US President Donald Trump had set the doomsday clock a little closer to midnight.

But it was later while taking questions from reporters that the comedy legend got really serious about her fears regarding Trump.

Tomlin said one way to protest Trump’s controversial Executive Orders and other actions is to stay focused on the law.

‘The Nazis, they changed the laws that didn’t agree with them – they just changed them and they could do what they wanted,’ Tomlin, 77, said backstage at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

‘Now that was over a period of time.’

She added: ‘So I think we have to be vigilant and stop certain behaviors so that someone who has not thought something through doesn’t get too far in the process. We need to be vigilant.’

As she spoke the 77-year-old Tomlin suddenly had a realization.

‘Oh my gosh,’ she said. ‘I feel like I’m talking someplace in Germany many decades ago.’

The SAG Awards took place last Saturday (28 January) on the same day airports across the US were filled with protesters against Trump’s Executive Order instituting a 90-day travel ban from seven countries with mostly Muslim populations.

One Remark

  1. Lily is correct. I first felt whiplash from being transported back in time to the 1950′s….and now it’s from being catapulted even further backwards to 1933 Nazi Germany. We *must* be viligent and pay attention. Silence = death. So speak up and out freely. I read that a lawmaker in Indiana wants to make it legal to shoot protestors.

This is NOT the America we are used to anymore.

Not to ignore Lily’s many achievements, her video retrospective was absolutely wonderful! What an amazing body of work. Lily is one of the funniest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to have seen in my lifetime (and in person too).
