See Greg Louganis and Tom Daley dive together!

Tom Daley was thrilled to be diving with a man ‘who has won like 20 million gold medals.’

Well, Greg Louganis hasn’t win quite that many but his Olympic haul is quite impressive: four gold and one silver.

Daley recently joined Louganis in Mission Viejo, California, for their first dive together ever.

‘This is where I started diving, this is where I learned a lot of my dives through my career,’ Louganis explained in a video posted on Daley’s YouTube channel.

‘So, it’s time for a renovation – for both the platform and me probably (laughs).’

As Daley, 22, climbed the steps up to the platform he can be seen saying: ‘I can’t believe I’m about to do a synchronized dive with Greg Louganis. This is the first time I’ve been in a pool since Rio so I feel a little bit weird about the whole situation.’

Daley won the bronze medal in the 10 meter platform synchro event at the recent Summer Olympics in Rio.

After completing a series of dives with Louganis, 56, Daley said: ‘It was like What the hell. I just dived with Greg Louganis.’

I chatted briefly chatted with Louganis several hours after the dive when he arrived at the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Vanguard Awards gala.

‘It was so much fun,’ he said. ‘I learned all my dives off that platform. To be able to share that with Tom Daley was great. It’s the end of an era and the beginning of a tremendous future.’

Louganis won his first Olympic medal, a silver, 40 years ago at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. He was a 16-year-old high school student.

One Remark

  1. I wasn’t even born quite yet when Greg competed in the 1984 Olympics as I was born in September of that year. When he competed in the 88′ Olympics I was almost 4. Either way he still has that grace that I feel that some divers lack now a days. Greg and Tom’s syncho dives were stunning considering this was their first time diving together. Although I gotta love Lance’s question to Tom at the end though. That was both funny and cute. I’m sure some men in their 50′s wished that they still looked as good as Greg does though.
