Saturday Video Special: That night in 1979 when Diana Ross guest-hosted ‘The Tonight Show’
This showed up in my YouTube suggestions last night and I watched the whole thing! It’s a time capsule. The year is 1979 and Diana Ross had a new album out called The Boss – the year after Love Hangover and year before Upside Down. She filled in for Johnny Carson on NBC’s The Tonight Show and performed The Boss and Reach Out and Touch and interviewed an absolutely stupendous line-up of guests: Muhammad Ali, George Carlin, Lynda Carter (she sings too!) and Roots author Alex Haley. Wow!

I needed that. I was actually crying during the last couple of minutes. What a wonderful idea and a wonderful performance.

Diana Ross was and is a legend and talent of the highest quality. One of her early Supremes albums will be expanded and re-released next month. Supremes-A-Go-Go. Great title !!

I was a kid, but I remember this. My parents let me stay up late to watch.
