Rudy Giuliani skips the wedding of his gay friends
Gee, with friends like this…
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was invited but did not attend the wedding this weekend of Howard Koeppel and Mark Hsiao, the couple he lived with for several months after his split from Donna Hanover.
You gotta wonder if Giuliani would have gone had he not been mulling over a run for governor. He’s made clear that he is anti-gay marriage (but is in favor of civil unions) and would make marriage a campaign issue should he run for governor.
“Rudy and Judith were both invited with a beautiful written invitation by mail,” said Koeppel. “His secretary called Thursday and said he was not able to come to the wedding and wished us all the best.”
His secretary called?
“We’re still friends,” Koeppel told the New York Post.”I danced at his wedding with [his wife] Judith [Nathan], and it would have been nice if he’d danced at mine … , “I understand why he’s doing what he’s doing. If he decides to run for governor . . . he’s a Republican, and he’s taking a Republican stand.”
What a pal.

I can’t believe that Koeppel said that they’re still friends with Rudy. That kind of betrayal is unforgivable. For Rudy to choose politics over a lifelong friendship is sickening. Had this happened to me and my partner, I would never speak to him again.
