Roger Federer finally back in winner’s circle!

Can you feel it? I can! Roger Federer is back!

The greatest male player in the history of tennis has been in a bad slump since winning the Australian Open in January. He beat Mardy Fish in three tough sets earlier today to win the Master’s tournament in Cincinnati.

It was Federer’s 63rd career title which ties him with Bjorn Borg for fifth place in the Open Era. Pete Sampras is fourth at 64, and Jimmy Connors holds the record with 109.

Federer holds the record for the most grand slam titles won (16).

Federer lost the number one ranking after the French Open (he lost in the quarterfinals) dropping all the way to number three for the first time since 2003. He is now back at number two and appears to be peaking just in time for the US Open which begins  a week from now. He had won the tournament five straight times before losing in a five-set final last year to an inspired Juan Martin del Potro who has been out with injury almost all year.
