Roger Federer adds Davis Cup win to greatest career resume in the history of men’s tennis

The year ended sweetly for Roger Federer after all.

Last week, the Swiss superstar had to pull out of the ATP Championships final with a bad back denying him a chance to win the year-end title for the seventh time.

But the back recovered enough for Federer, 33, to play in the Davis Cup final against France.

Fed has won more grand slam titles (17) than any other male player in history, been ranked number one more weeks (302) than anyone else, won the Olympic Gold Medal in doubles and Silver Medal in singles, 82 titles overall and is closing in on 1,000 match wins.

But he had never been a part of Davis Cup victory.

“This one is for the boys,” said Federer, who was in tears at the end of the match. “This is not for me, I have won enough. I am just happy we can give everyone in our country a historic moment.”
