Robin Roberts reveals something you didn’t know about her gay marriage interview with Obama
So glad I caught Robin Roberts’ appearance on The Meredith Vieira Show this afternoon because she shared this gem of a story.
Robin had snagged one of the biggest scoops of her career in May 2012 when President Barack Obama announced that he was publicly supporting gay marriage.
Robin told Meredith that during the interview at The White House, she noticed her producer holding a huge sign off camera after Obama made his announcement.
Robin figured it had congratulatory words but instead it read, ‘Lipstick on teeth!’
She told Meredith: ‘What my mama taught me is when you strut, you stumble. When you think you’re all that and a bag of chips, boom!’
But lipstick on the teeth or not, Robin was thrilled to be a part of history when Obama became the first sitting US president to support gay marriage.
‘To sit across from and for him to make that kind of statement, it’s something I’ll never forget.’
Since the interview, Robin came out publicly as a lesbian and in a relationship with Amber Laign since 2005.
