Raul Castillo talks about stepping back into his role of Richie for the finale of HBO’s “Looking”

It wasn’t just loyal fans like me who mourned when HBO cancelled Looking earlier this year after just two seasons.

The actors have been mourning too.

But they are currently reunited in San Francisco filming a finale for the show about a group of gay friends.

Raul Castillo, who plays the role of hairdresser Richie, says it wasn’t difficult to step back into his character – especially when it came to working opposite Jonathan Groff who plays his on-again, off-again love interest.

‘I think for me, the scenes with Jonathan are – maybe easy is not the right word – but almost fluid,’ he tells xFinity.com.

‘I’m able to drop in with him and there is an ease to our camaraderie and our relationship. I think that I don’t have to reach for it. It’s there immediately and I feel so lucky to have a scene partner like him because you don’t often get that.’Cast members have made clear how much they have enjoyed working together which is why they’ve had trouble letting go of the experience.

‘It’s not going to be easy to walk away from this character, probably more than anything I’ve ever done in my career because it exposed me to the world and to the industry in the way that it did,’ Castillo says. ‘It gave me this sort of artistic family that I’m always longing for whether it’s in the theater world, on film or television.

‘I just love to be part of groups of like-minded artists that are all striving for the same thing and luckily I think there’s been a great synchronization in this company of people who want this same thing, and that’s a rarity.’

The Looking finale will air sometime next year. An exact air date has not yet been determined.

One Remark

  1. Raul was what kept me watching the show. He lit up the screen every time he appeared, all I wanted as the viewer was the best for him. His character was so sincere and beautiful. I kept watching hoping his character would find love since he already had a career that made him fulfilled.
