Rascal Flatts release new song on iTunes today that urges people to “Love Who You Love”

This is the kind of thing that makes your day because it seems to come out of nowhere: Rascal Flatts has a new song that was written to remind people to show affection to those near and dear to them. And if people want to interpret that as an anthem for same-sex love, the band is totally cool with that, according to an interview with CMT.

“We actually have some gay people that work with us, and we have a lot of friends that are gay, too, and I know that this song has inspired them,” said singer Gary LeVox. “I know that coming out was tough on their parents and on them and the whole entire family. For a long time, some of them didn’t get to hear ‘I love you’ from their dads or be accepted in that way. … It’s helped a lot of our friends.”

“That’s what’s cool about our music,” says guitarist Joe Don Rooney. “You can interpret (it like) that. If you get that — it’s perfect. If you are someone who’s gay or someone who’s straight, you still feel something from the song, and that’s what we want.”

“We don’t judge anybody’s lives,” says bassist Jay DeMarcus.

I’m such a fan now! Here’s a video with the song. Enjoy!

Talk about out of left field! I’m a 57-year-old gay man who lost his last immediate family member -my grandmother- in August. This song had me crying at work. I also am now a Rascal Flatts fan, and I will be telling everybody I know to buy their album! Maybe things ARE getting better…

  2. Rascal Flatts have a great new song Banjo this is going to be a huge hit!
