Portia to go from De Rossi to DeGeneres!
This is so sweet: Portia de Rossi has filed a legal request to take the last name of her spouse Ellen DeGeneres.
Portia, a cast member on Ally McBeal and Arrested Development, had a recurring role in seas0n five of FX’s Nip/Tuck and most recently co-starred in the ABC sitcom Better off Ted.
She and Ellen have been together since 2004 and were married in California in August 2008 during a brief window when same-sex marriage licenses were being issued. Despite the later passage of Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriages in the state – Ellen and Portia’s were among the 18,000 marriages declared to be still legally valid.
A judge’s ruling last week declared the ban unconstitutional – a decision that is being appealed in a higher court.

That’s sweet of her, and it makes sense when you consider that her real name wasn’t even “Portia de Rossi” to begin with.
She basically started out as “Amanda Lee Rogers” and will now apparently be “Portia Lee James DeGeneres”… Thank goodness at least she herself knows exactly who she is!
