Please donate to the JD Disalvatore Cancer Fund
JD Disalvatore is a force of nature who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer.
My thoughts and prayers are with this amazing filmmaker whose friends have set up a fund for to help with her medical costs. All you have to do is watch the video below to see what a unique and special person JD is.
She has produced such terrific films as Shelter (one of my favorites, all time), A Marine Story and Elena Undone.
JD is not only an award-winning filmmaker, she’s also an activist who is on the front lines of causes for LGBT equality and for a few years, hosted the wildly popular Smoking Cocktail monthly mixers at O Bar in West Hollywood. I miss the mixers – and O Bar!
Anyway, I wanted to get the word out and share what JD wrote on Facebook when I posted this photo of she and I from opening night a few years ago: “You look fabulous. I look like my father.”
Here is a LINK to the fundraising page.
UPDATED: JD has just posted this update on her Facebook page: “I promise not to spend all the money on drugs, liquor and hookers.”

Somehow this story showed up in my facebook feed this morning. I don’t know this JD but coincidently my first novel features a main character named JD. I think the universe was trying to get my attention. I can’t send much, but I DO have health insurance so I’m going to send ten bucks and I urge everybody else to send at least ten, too. (If you know JD send more!) If every stranger who reads her story sends a bit, the fund will reach its goal. It sucks that we don’t have universal health care in this country but we can still help each other out. Give.
