Pete Buttigieg talks to Jimmy Fallon about possibly becoming first openly gay cabinet member
Former Mayor Pete Buttigieg guested on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night and talked about attending President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the new administration’s plans and his historic nomination as secretary of transportation.
He recalled being in high school and watching one of then-President Bill Clinton’s nominees for an ambassador derailed because he was gay.
“It sent a message that only might gay people be denied a chance to serve but also a chance to belong,” Buttigieg told Fallon. “The fact that 20 years later I’ll go before a (Senate) committee and hopefully receive a vote to become a confirmed cabinet member, I just hope that send a different, better, opposite message to some kid who’s watching now.”
