On Faye Dunaway’s 80th birthday, it’s time for some scenes from “Mommie Dearest”

There’s a lot of people who say Faye Dunaway is kind of a rhymes with rich.

And who’s to say they’re wrong?

But it’s her 80th birthday and as a gay man, it is my absolute duty – and delight – the shine a light on the movie she hates to talk about but that we all love: Mommie Dearest.

She was a better Joan Crawford than Crawford herself.

Enjoy!

ATP Players Reveal Their Best Friends on Tour!

Dominic Thiem is not only the reigning US Open champion, he’s also one of the most popular players on the ATP Tour among his peers.

In this sweet video, several players are asked who their best friend on the tour is. Rafael Nadal listed basically the entire Spanish Davis Cup team so he didn’t play faves.

But other players were more specific and Thiem’s name seemed to come up the most. Among his best pals on tour is Alexander Zverev who Thiem beat in the final at Flushing Meadows in December.

I know they are just friends but think they’d make a cute couple!

Wednesday Morning Man: Patrick Dempsey!

Patrick Dempsey turns 55 today and it’s nice too shine a spotlight on this dreamy actor who is aging magnificently.

He recently reprised his role as neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy in a dream sequence. He had left the show after its 12th season in 2015 with his character being killed off.

Since leaving the show, he has starred in the TV series Devils, the miniseries The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, and the feature film Bridget Jones’s Baby.

Dempsey had early success as an actor, starring in a number of films in the 1980s, including Can’t Buy Me Love (1987) and Loverboy (1989). In the 1990s, he mostly appeared in smaller roles in film, such as Outbreak (1995) and television. Dempsey was in Scream 3 where he played the role of Detective Mark Kincaid and landed a lead role in Sweet Home Alabama (2002), a surprise box office hit. He has since starred in other films, including Enchanted (2007), Made of Honor (2008), Valentine’s Day (2010), Flypaper (2011), Freedom Writers (2007), and Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2012).

PREVIEW: The second season of “9-1-1: Lone Star” promises to have even more diverse characters

Did not expect to love 9-1-1: Lone Star as much as I did during its first season and it has everything to do with it’s gay love storyline, the inclusion of a prominent trans male, and then there’s my decades-long crush on Rob Lowe who is aging like very fine wine.

The follows a sophisticated New York fire captain (Lowe) who, along with his gay firefighter son, re-locates to Austin. They try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives.

This video highlights just how diverse the second season will be.

Tuesday Morning Man: Rep. Jason Crow

On January 3rd, Congressman Jason Crow, a Democrat from Colorado and a decorated Army Ranger and veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was sworn in for his second term.

Three days later, Crow was sitting in the gallery of the House of Representatives as the certification of the Electoral College got underway when a mob of pro-Trump insurrectionists, neo-Confederates, and conspiracy theorists breached the Capitol’s security officers and stormed into the building.

On Thursday morning, the 41-year-old Crow, who was running on a few hours of sleep, spoke with “Rolling Stone” and described what he witnessed during the January 6th assault on the Capitol.

Here is an excerpt:

I saw Capitol Police on the House floor start closing the doors and locking them. I knew at that point we were trapped and there was no way out and the mob had surrounded us. Then I saw the Capitol Police on the floor started taking furniture and stacking it and barricading it against the door. I knew we were in big trouble potentially.
I called my wife. I told her I loved her and told the kids I loved them and told my wife I might have to fight my way out.
I immediately got into Ranger mode, as I say. I’m going to do everything I can, I’m going to take as much action as I can.

WATCH: Check out this compilation of the best of 2020 male gay kiss/romance scenes on television

Did not expect to react to this thorough compilation of 2020 gay kiss/romance scenes between men on television the way that I did.

It took me back to being a teenager and being lost in fantasies of these kinds of romantic scenes taking place in every day life. They were intoxicating scenarios and not really explicit. They were about kissing a coworker or a friend and it was so normal in my brain. But it didn’t seem like something that would ever be possible outside of a dark bar or a parked car with a lot of guilt and shame after.

There certainly were not any television shows depicting gay men falling in love, being romantic, being in relationships.

And so, I post these scenes with a lot of enthusiasm because I know that young people are growing up with all kinds of images of gay men – even on network television with such shows as 9-1-1: Lone Star, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, and Riverdale.

These are not about shame – they are about love, romance, lust. Normal stuff. The way it was in my head all those years ago.

I’m not familiar with every single show included here but if you are curious, the TV and movie titles are listed in chronological order at the end of the video: 15:32
