Outfest 2013: “The Go Doc Project” keeps the audience in their seats right through the end of the Q&A
So last night at Outfest, I was considering skipping the last movie on my schedule because I was a bit tired after seeing three movies and dashing over to a GLAAD event in Hancock Park for a few hours.
But, I rallied, and am damned glad I did!
The movie was The Go Doc Project and it was an absolutely charming and very sexy movie that will make my top 5 list when I post it tomorrow.
The movie had a 9 pm start so it was already 11 pm when the Q&A was about to start. Usually at least about half the audience leaves immediately after the movie ends but this time, there was about 99.9% retention rate!
We knew the gorgeous stars were in the house!
Here’s the premise: A shy recent college grad (Tanner Cohen) devises to shoot a documentary about the NYC nightlife scene in order to meet the go-go guy (Matthew Camp) he’s cyber-obsessed with.
Cohen is a wonderful actor and Camp, in his first film, is such an appealing personality and the camera just loves him.
Camp really is the well-known Go-Go boy he plays in the film but he’s also a tattoo artist and much more while Cohen who is previously best known for the movie musical Were the World Mine which screened at Outfest a few years ago.
Both actors are gay and a lot of their dialogue is improv. This resulted in 200 hours of footage that is nicely edited down by director Tom Gustafson into a 90 minute film that I highly recommend, It will be released on DVD in 2014.
