Out ABC News correspondent James Longman tours archaeological treasures underneath Jerusalem

View this post on Instagram

Huge privilege to see the latest archaeological treasures underneath Jerusalem. This is the ancient street possibly built by Pontius Pilate 2000 years ago. We’ve seen the Western Wall underground, right next to which a Roman theatre has been found. And incredibly, a grocery shop with a hidden treasure: a 1700 year old crusader hall right underneath. It’s huge. And behind that far wall – The Holy Sepulchre itself. Super lucky – I feel like Dan Brown. Much of this not without controversy: in a city defined by claims to land, excavations below bring up all the same issues. Especially since much of the areas the Israeli archaeologists are digging go right underneath Arab areas, they say causing damage to their homes. Feature soon on @goodmorningamerica @natgeo
