NPR’s Ari Shapiro on journalism and cabaret
As a regular listener of NPR. I’ve long been aware of the work of Ari Shapiro, co-host of NPR’s All Things Considered. But I knew nothing about his life including the fact that he is gay and has been married to his college sweetheart since 2004. In his new memoir, The Best Strangers in the World, Shapiro explains how storytelling plays out in his roles as journalist, and as singer with the band Pink Martini. CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Rita Braver talks with Shapiro about his life and career; NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg, who “discovered” Shapiro; and actor Alan Cumming, who performs a nightclub act with Shapiro, called “Och & Oy,” also weigh in.
