Novak Djokovic edges Roger Federer in a thrilling – and heartbreaking – five-set Wimbledon final

We Roger Federer fans are greedy. He may have a record 8 Wimbledon titles but we desperately wanted him to have nine.

Today he came within one point.

I cannot explain the roller coaster of emotions today while watching his five-set final against Novak Djokovic which ended with a win for the Serbian star 7–6(7–5), 1–6, 7–6(7–4), 4–6, 13–12(7–3).

I was watching with five guys in Provincetown and three women walking by heard us screaming and asked the score. We invited them to watch with us and they did!

As the fifth set wore on, I got so tense that I started drinking the only booze we had in the house: beer. It had been left by the people who rented the house the previous week. I never drink beer but by the end of the match, I’d had three!

As a rabid Fed fan, I’m devastated for him but I have so much respect for how hard Novak competed. These were two warriors and only one could come out the winner.

Federer turns 38 next month and already speaks of next year. Meanwhile, Djokovic now has 16 grand slam titles – four behind Federer and two behind Rafael Nadal.

Who will end up the greatest of them all?

One Remark

  1. TWO. FUCKING. CHAMPIONSHIP. POINTS. BLOWN.

Felt like a knife going through my heart.
