Not that I care anymore, but “90210″ is canceled

Well, it’s a wrap for The WB”s 90210 after the current fifth and final season.

I caught some of the first season because, let’s face it, had to see Shannon Doherty return as Brenda Walsh! But she didn’t last and neither did the hottie school principal played by Rob Estes.

But then came along blond and beautiful Teddy Montgomery played by blond and beautiful Trevor Donovan.

Gee, he was swell.

And wasn’t it great when he came out as gay? I interviewed Trevor about it and everything.

Teddy struggled but eventually started dating Ian and came out to his classmates. Then the writers turned Ian into some kind of weirdo in like one episode and that ended clumsily and badly.

I wrote in a commentary at the time: ‘There are so few gay characters on broadcast television and I’m not saying they should all be saints but they should at least make sense. This did not make sense at all.”

But Teddy met and dated and kissed other guys including one played by Freddie Smith who went on to become Sonny on Days of Our Lives.

But the powers that be inexplicably decided that the show’s one gay character would not be returning as a regular after season 3.

That’s when they lost me.

After that, I only tuned in if Teddy was making one of his sporadic appearances including this season when he and Silver were involved in some sperm donation plotline.

This went from a show I was starting to really like and write and tweet about to something I not only lost interest in, but actually resented.

So there you go. Feel much better now.
