Neil Patrick Harris would love an EGOT
Neil Patrick Harris wants an EGOT.
When all is said and done, the out actor hopes to have won all four major annual American entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
Harris shared this dream when by The Advocate for its 50th anniversary issue what he hopes his legacy will be.
‘I hope my family gets to do great things in their lives, have countless adventures, affect some sort of positive change, and not have to worry for money. That’s pretty much all I want. Oh, and an EGOT.’
It’s a tall order but Harris is already halfway there. He won an Emmy Award for a guest role on Glee and have four more Emmys for co-producing four Tony Awards telecasts that he hosted.
As for the Tonys themselves, he won for best actor in a musical for Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
His single Grammy nomination came for the cast recording of Hedwig which did not win.
Harris is even closer to becoming a hosting EGOT as he has hosted the Oscars, Emmys and Tonys.
The 43-year-old actor and former child star came out publicly in 2006 and is married to actor David Burtka with whom he has two children.
Asked about his impact as an out performer Harris says: ‘I’ve really just been scrapping to stay employed and in doing so, trying to keep as many avenues open, as many demographics as possible aware of what I do, and hopefully I can provide some worth.
‘If that translates into acceptance somehow, that’s golden, but not necessary. There are many other people doing vastly more impactful things than me. I’m just trying to make mostly good choices, and hopefully those choices will make a positive imprint on our children.’
