Neil Patrick Harris visits “The Colbert Report”

To promote Sunday night’s Tony Awards which he is hosting, Neil Patrick Harris has been on something of a publicity blitz.

One of his stops this week was The Colbert Report on Comedy Central.

This reunited him with host Stephen Colbert with whom he appeared last year in a three-night Broadway production of the musical Company.

Colbert said he and Harris are ‘kind of friends’ then went on to explain why he considers the openly gay star such a threat.

‘Your threat is you make being gay not seem threatening,’ Colbert explained. ‘It’s almost as if your happiness does not take my happiness away. … That’s your plan, to make gay seem acceptable.’

Colbert added that another reason he finds Harris so threatening is how convincing the actor is playing the womanizing Barney Stinson on the long-running CBS series How I Met Your Mother.

‘If I didn’t know any better, I would think you’re a straight guy – that’s how good an actor you are,’ Colbert said.

When Harris responded by saying, ‘Right on,’ Colbert pointed out that the actor’s casual use of the phrase further validated his point.

‘Only straight guys say, ‘Right on,” Colbert said. ‘Did you just slip into character?’

Replied Harris: ‘Because gay guys say, ‘Damn skippy!”

The more I learn of NPH, the more I ‘like’ him personally and professionally and appreciate his talent. I am also getting to know and watch The Colbert Report.
