Neil Patrick Harris has resorted to ‘Jedi mind tricks’ when it comes to family Halloween costumes
Neil Patrick Harris is finding out that his twins Gideon and Harper have their own ideas about Halloween as they head towards their sixth birthdays.
The Emmy and Tony award winning actor and actor-chef husband David Burtka have gone all out in year’s past with themed costumes and the twins happily went along.
Last year was a Star Wars theme and past group efforts have been inspired by Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz and Batman and then there was the year they were a clan of monsters.
‘They are starting to have more of an opinion which is a little bit annoying,’ Harris admitted to Seth Myers this week on NBC’s Late Night.
‘This year we’re trying to slow play the family costume idea. … I’m trying to do Jedi mind tricks on them and not saying, “Here’s our costume this year.”‘
Instead he will say things like, ‘That’s a cool idea, we should dress up like that sometime.’
But it’s already tricky because daughter Harper is into a cartoon called Monster High which Harris describes as ‘kind of like Barbies but goth.’
His fear is this: ‘I don’t think anyone will get that it’s Monster High. They’ll just think she’s a goth prostitute.’
