Neil Parick Harris on his Italian wedding to David Burtka: ‘Take that George Clooney!’

George Clooney’s Italian wedding may have gotten all of the attention over the weekend but Neil Patrick Harris points out that he got married in Italy first.

‘Take that Clooney! I don’t see you showing pictures of your wedding on talk shows!’ Harris joked Monday during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Harris and his partner of 10 years David Burtka were married over the summer in a small Italian town near Perugia in front of about 50 guests which included Elton John.

‘Elton … sang a few songs which is super cool,’ Harris told the host. ‘He’s a friend and I didn’t expect that so that was overwhelming and he introduced our first dance.’

That first dance was to Kelly Clarkson’s A Moment Like This which was chosen because Harris and Burtka were wild about the singer during the first season of America Idol which she won.

They also chose Italy for the wedding because it is where they took their first trip together and because ‘a friend of a friend knew a dude who had a castle.’

He is making the talk show rounds to promote the film Gone Girl in which he has a supporting role.
