Neil Meron’s tribute to Craig Zadan: “I wish I could tell him about all the attention he’s been getting. He would have loved it”
The unexpected death this week of producer Craig Zadan has left Neil Meron without a professional partner.
The two had for decades teamed to bring us such wonderful movies as Chicago and Hairspray, three Oscars telecasts, five live musicals on NBC and such TV shows as Smash and Drop Dead Diva.
Meron has just posted this message on Facebook: Thanks to everyone for the overwhelming show of love and respect for my brilliant partner and friend, Craig Zadan. I am feeling such sadness and loss, but I know he will be guiding me on my new path. I wish I could tell him about all the attention he’s been getting. He would have loved it. I hope he knows. And I’m sharing a pic of our early days, in the mid 70′s, when I was Craig’s assistant at the Public Theater and Craig directed the legendary producer, Joseph Papp, in his only nightclub appearance. I was a sponge standing between two giants and Craig let me in. As he always did. I share my grief with his partner and love, Elwood Hopkins and all of his friends. #RIP
