NBC’s next live musical will be … “Peter Pan”
I’m here in Pasadena for NBC day of the TV Critics Assn. Winter Press Tour and network president Robert Greenblatt has just announced the next live musical will be … Peter Pan!
The network had huge ratings for The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood whose singing was praised and acting not so much.
It was fascinating though how it became a shared experience with everyone live-tweeting with snarky remarks etc.
Peter Pan will no doubt suffer less from comparisons since there is no classic movie that everyone knows scene by scene to compare it to.
Mary Martin, who starred in the musical on Broadway, starred in a 1960 TV version of the musical.
It seems like a great idea and will be, once again, in the capable hands of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron who produced Sound of Music and will produce the Oscars next month for the second year in a row.
Greenblatt would not reveal who his dream cast is but joked: “I want Miley Cyrus.”
