NBA player Jason Collins makes Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list

Jason Collins is a hero any way you look at it for being brave and coming out publicly last year.

But I’m just so glad he finally got to play again for a team after his big announcement (the Brooklyn Nets) because it is just such a powerful statement to have him out there on the court.

The Earth continued to turn on its axis, no one freaked out in the locker room, and we have been able to see what we already knew: it’s not a big deal.

Anyway, Jason is among those selected for Time Magazine’s annual 100 Most Powerful People issue which I believe is usually part of a big party in NYC.

I doubt some of the other selections like Pope Francis, Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong Un will be at the party others like Hillary Clinton just might be I imagine.

Speaking of Clinton, it is her daughter Chelsea who wrote the piece on Collins for Time. Here is an excerpt:

I met Jason Collins when we were freshmen at Stanford. Not surprisingly, the first thing I noticed was his height. The second thing I noticed was his kindness off the court — and his fierceness on it. Kindness to his friends, his family and fans. Fierceness in his drive to win. Jason has always been focused on others, on what’s right for those he loves, and on helping those whose jersey is the same as his.
