National Coming Out Day: Greg In Hollywood’s Honor Roll of famous people who are out and proud compiling this list of famous LGBT folks who are out publicly, I was struck by how large the list had grown in the past five years alone. This is by no means a complete list of out actors, actresses, politicians, writers, journalists, singers and athletes but it’s pretty impressive all the same!

  1. I guess with such a lengthy list, it’s inevitable you’d overlook a few:

Stephen Gately (who sadly passed away suddenly on Oct 10/09), Ted Allen, Mel White, Mike White, Chris Colfer (Kurt in Glee), Esera Tualo (ex-NFL player), Mark Feehily (Westlife), John Barrowman, Adamo Ruggiero, Dan Bucatinsky (tv producer, actor and life partner of Don Roos), Mika, Levi Kreis (fantastic musician, also plays Jerry Lee Lewis in Million Dollar Quartet), Thom Filicia, David Bromstad, Bruno Tonioli, Mark Tewksbury, Ian Roberts, Brian Orser, Michelangelo Signorile, Alexis Arquette, Jesse Archer.

  2. Great list – and let’s welcome the entire male cast of EATING OUT: ALL YOU CAN EAT into the fold…all out actors in their first film – Daniel Skelton, Chris Salvatore, Michael E.R. Walker, John Stallings, Maximiliano Torandell, and Rick D’Agostino…who all join out gay veteran Leslie Jordan.

    Spencer's Mom says:

But wouldn’t true equality and acceptance be when gays and lesbians don’t have to “come out” and can just “be?!”

  4. Don’t forget Broadway’s Marty Thomas, TV’s Scott Nevins and play write / performer Charles Busch

  5. I agree with Spencer’s Mom. The greatest National Coming Out Day will be when no one comes out because it is no longer necessary. We will all just be people diverse and wonderful people with no labels attached. That will be the best day of all. In the meantime thanks to all these great role models that show the world you can be who you are and get what you want in life also.

  6. I forgot to add Wil Young (winner of the original Pop Idol), Alex Parks (winner of Fame Academy, season 2), Anthony Callea (runner-up in Australian Idol, season 2), Tim Campbell (wonderful Aussie actor/singer & Anthony Callea’s partner), Theo Tams (winner of Canadian Idol, season 6), Dennis Grabosch (plays Roman Wild in German soap “All That Matter”), Jeremy Glazer, Armistead Maupin, Paulo Szot, Marcellas Reynolds, Ben Patrick Johnson, Brad Walsh, Annie Leibovitz, Russell Tovey, Simon Callow, Rick Mercer, John Gidding, Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan, Sam and Dan McMillen (of the current season of the Amazing Race), George Michael, Todd Herzog (winner of Survivor: China), Ivri Lider (Israeli pop star), Dan Gillespie Sells, Rob Halford, Eric Millegan, Dennis O’Hare, Brian Paddick, Peter Stickles, PJ DeBoy, Paul Dawson, Jay Brannan.

  7. John Barrowman(Torchwood/Dr.Who)and his partner,Scott Gill are missing from this list. as are:Simon Callow,Christian Chavez(Mexican pop group RBD),Jason & DeMarco,Kevyn Aviance,Jim Verraros. I know there are more.
