Nadal oldest year-end number one in history
Kudos to Rafael Nadal for securing enough points on the ATP computer to be ranked number one at the end of the season.
By winning the French Open for the 10th time and the US Open for the third time, the 31-year-old Nadal has certainly earned his ranking.
I was hoping this distinction would belong to Roger Federer but my favorite all-time player just hasn’t played in enough tournaments this year – only 11. But with the Australian Open and Wimbledon crowns and five other tournament victories, 36-yar-old Federer will be the true top player of 2017 if he manages to win the ATP Finals which begin next week in London.
Federer has won the ATP Finals six times while Nadal has never won the tournament. It’s also worth noting that Federer has beaten Nadal all four times they met this year.
