My interview with newlyweds Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami about life after the Supreme Court ruling
Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami aren’t just any newlyweds – they are newlyweds who helped make history.
The Burbank couple, of course, were one of the two lead plaintiffs in the federal court case challenging California’s Proposition 8 and got married as soon as it was legally possible.
I followed their every move online for weeks leading up to the SCOTUS ruling to such a degree that I almost forgot that I had never actually met them.
But we did meet, face-to-face, at Outfest recently and I did an interview with them.
I wondered if they feel different now that they are married (today is their one-month anniversary!)
“I can say that after we were pronounced married, that I felt a difference – you feel that freedom and that dignity,’ Paul said. ‘You feel that liberty and that justice come over you and it’s something that you can’t explain unless you have felt the opposite of what it is and we did for so many years.”
