My favorite moment of NBC’s “Smash” so far: Bernadette Peters belts out number from “Gypsy” was a Broadway-loving gay man’s dream come true.

I was watching  NBC’s Smash on Monday – my new favorite show (sorry Glee) – and was excited to see the guest turn by the great Bernadette Peters as Ivy’s mom.

It was kind of crazy that Ivy’s director did not know her mom is a Broadway legend and she looks nothing like her daughter but other than that, I loved every minute of it.

Especially this: Miss Peters shows up to her daughter’s workshop rehearsal and it doesn’t take much convincing for her to sing for the cast. She belts out Everything’s Coming Up Roses.

She’s had plenty of practice: the two-time Tony winner starred for an entire year on Broadway as Mama Rose in one of the revivals of Gypsy.

2 Remarks

  1. I’ve known people who have gone way out of their way to not let people know who they are related to. Have to agree they certainly chose some one who seem to bear no physical resemblance to each other.

    Most interesting program.

  2. Yes, I have that same problem. People don’t believe that I am John Barrowman’s & Bernadette Peters’ love child. And I don’t look like either of them!
