Must-see video: See Streisand’s “Gypsy” medley!
Barbra Streisand may or may not be playing Mama Rose in a new feature film version of Gypsy.
Let’s hope that all the reports are indeed true and that the project is moving forward because this great star could bookend her film career – which began with Funny Girl in 1968 – with another glorious musical.
There are those who sniffed that at 70, Streisand is too old to play the role originated by Ethel Merman on Broadway and played by Rosalind Russell and Bette Midler in feature film and TV versions.
Well, all you have to do is watch this video from Streisand’s Back to Brooklyn concert tour in Philadelphia on October 10. She kicks off a medley of Broadway showtunes with two Gypsy show-stoppers: Rose’s Turn and Some People.
Bonus Video: Streisand performs As if We Never Said Goodbye from Sunset Boulevard.
