MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on election results: ‘You’re not having a terrible, terrible dream’
MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow, one of Donald Trump’s fiercest television critics this election season, could not hide her despondency.
As Trump edged closer to victory in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, Maddow looked into the camera and said to her viewers: ‘You’re awake by the way. You’re not having a terrible, terrible dream.’
Then she added: ‘ Also, you’re not dead and haven’t gone to hell. This is your life now.
‘This is us. This is out country. It’s real.’
Maddow’s agony was being cheered on Twitter by Trump supporters to such a degree that Maddow was trending.
As the votes rolled in, Maddow blasted people who voted for minor candidates who they knew had no chance of winning the presidency.
‘Well, it is what it is. People go into this eyes wide open,’ Maddow said. ‘If you vote for somebody who can’t win for president, it means that you don’t care who wins for president.’
