MOVIE MONDAY: If you haven’t seen “Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean” now is your chance!
Before Silkwood, Cher made an acting splash Off-Broadway in the Robert Altman-directed play Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean which was then made into a movie with the same cast. And what a cast! In addtion to Cher, the film starred Karen Black, Oscar winner Sandy Dennis and future Oscar winner Kathy Bates.
Here’s the plot: In the film, a group of old friends reunite after many years at a once-beloved local spot, each carrying secrets from their past that are about to resurface. As memories of youth and shared obsessions are rekindled, long-buried truths come to light, unraveling their seemingly perfect recollections of the past. With emotions running high, tensions escalate, and the reunion turns into a confrontation with the choices they made and the people they have become. This poignant drama invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of friendship, identity, and the passage of time.
