Morning Men Classics: The Men of Wimbledon!

The 2024 Wimbledon men’s final will take place on Sunday and I am rooting for Carlos Alcaraz to repeat as champion. He just won his semifinal a short time ago.

Since 2003, only Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic (7), Roger Federer (8), Rafael Nadal (2), and Andy Murray (2) have won the men’s crown.

On this day, let’s look back on some of the past men’s champions and finalists who I find particularly attractive.

Five-time champion Bjorn Borg (left and below) was quite the heartthrob during his era in the 1970s and early 80s. Aussie hunk Pat Rafter (pictured with seven-time champ Pete Sampras) never won but made it twice to the finals while Stefan Edberg, made three consecutive finals against Boris Becker and won two of them.

Andy Roddick (wearing the white baseball cap) made it to three Wimbledon finals in his career but, unfortunately for him, ran into Roger Federer each time and lost – including a heartbreaking final in 2009. Aussie Lleyton Lewitt (shaking hands with Roddick) only made it to one final (in 2002) but he won it.

And finally, there are a pair of Aussies who also had their moments at Wimbledon: the blond and buff Lew Hoad who won in 1956 and 57 and the handsome Pat Cash (top and bottom photos) who was the men’s champion in 1987.
