Morning Man Encore: Rusty Joiner!
This was originally posted April 4, 2009 – saw Rusty Wednesday night at SUR restaurant after the Prop. 8 celebration in West Hollywood and he is looking as yummy as ever!
If this gorgeous guy looks familiar, you have probably seen him on one of the hundreds of men’s fitness magazines that he has graced the cover of.
His name is Rusty Joiner, a model and actor.
He’s done workout DVDs, a calendar and was the star of a particularly memorable Excedrine commercial that had him running through a busy city then a forest in just a pair of black running shorts. Rusty also had a role in the Ben Stiller comedy Dodgeball, a lead role in the film Absolute Evil with David Carradine and appeared in the TV dramas ER, Bones and Close to Home.
I had a fluke meeting with Rusty about three years ago when he was tending bar at the now-closed iCandy in West Hollywood. I was at a birthday party, sitting at the bar sipping lemon drop martinits with my friend Michael. In strolled Rusty who looked really familiar. I soon realized that I had bought his workout DVD a few weeks earlier at A Different Light bookstore. “Have you tried it?” he asked. “No,” I said. “But, I’ve watched it!” We chatted more and Rusty told me he had posed for a photo that was in the current issue of The Advocate. You couldn’t tell it was him because the photo, an entire page, was of his ABS! It was illustrating a controversial cover story on gay polygamy and the story was written by….ME!
Rusty is straight – but obviously very gay-friendly – and I hope he lands a lot more gigs on TV and in movies.
