Morning Man Encore: Rib Hillis!
It was so nice to meet Rib Hillis a few nights ago at the GLAAD Tidings event.
He’s an actor and a model who had parlayed his handyman skills into some choice television gigs and he’s also a straight ally who was appalled by the recent anti-gay marriage vote in Maine.
“I’m sickened by it, I think it’s obscene – the last form of discrimination,” he said. “I think it comes out of people’s own fears and insecurities. I have amazing, beautiful friends who have been together forever.”
After college, Rib modeled full-time and worked in Milan, Paris, Barcelona, London, Sydney, New York, Miami and Los Angeles for such publications as Uomo Vogue, GQ, Esquire and Men’s Health. He also appeared in many commercials and print campaigns for Versace, Armani and Catalyst Cologne.
He arrived in Hollywood in 1996 to look for acting roles and landed one on the now-defunct soap Port Charles. He’s has also guested on Ugly Betty, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami.
Rib also used his looks and carpentry skills to to become a regular on seasons five and six of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. He will next appear on a new show set to debut on A&E next year called $100 Makeover. Each room redone will have to be redone with just $100 worth of materials.
“I put any hat on that I need to wear,” he said, laughing.
Oh yeah, how did he get the name Rib? He picked up in the third grade playing with frogs and enjoying the sounds that they make.
