Morning Man Classic: John Davidson!

John Davidson, who is celebrating his 74th birthday today, was a big crush pf mine growing up.

He had a daytime talk show for awhile replacing Mike Douglas, hosted revivals of Hollywood Squares the $100,000 Pyramid, guest hosted The Tonight Show 87 times and is probably best known for hos run as co-host of ABC’s That’s Incredible!

But before all of that, the handsome John had made his mark as a singer and an actor in movies, television and on stage.

John starred with Sally Field in the series The Girl With Something Extra during the 1973-74 season which was around the same time he guest starred on The Streets of San Francisco as a drag performer who, as Carol Channing, sings Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend and murders his fans.

Yikes!

John is still a busy performer. In June 2012, he played the role of Henry in the Off Broadway Revival of The Fantasticks and more recently was the Wizard in the first North American tour of Wicked.

3 Remarks

  1. Oh, YES! John Davidson was a big crush of mine, too!

And then when the news that he had done that spread for (wasn’t it?) Playgirl came out, I couldn’t stop watching for everything John Davidson.

    Thanks for the recollection, Greg!

  2. I remember him from the Disney movies “The Happiest Millionaire” and “One and Only Genuine Original Family Band” which I watched in a movie theater in the 1960′s. Always thought he was a handsome man. I also remember him in his last appearance “Edward Scissorhands in 1990.

    Happy Birthday, John Davidson!

  3. WHAT A “SILVER FOX”,,EVEN BETTER LOOKING AS HE GOT OLDER!!!
