Morning Man Classic: Jerry Brown!
I’ve been reading Linda Ronstadt’s terrific autobiography, Simple Dreams, and she has a brief section about her high-profile relationship in the late 70s and early 80s with then and current California Governor Jerry Brown.
There’s a great story of how he dropped by her house unannounced one night just as she was leaving to have dinner at Rosemary Clooney’s house. He invited himself along and grabbed a box of roses Linda had been sent and re-gifted them to Miss Clooney!
They had a lot of fun together over the years even going to Africa on Safari once. Their relationship made the cover of People and Us Weekly, of course, but also of Newsweek!
I had a big crush on Brown during his days as California’s young governor. Now at 75, he’s our oldest governor as he was elected again in 2011 after nearly 30 years after the end of his second term.
In between, Brown was mayor of Oakland for 8 years, California Attorney General for four years and for a time was chairman of the California Democratic Party,
Brown has been with Anne Gust, former chief administrative officer for The Gap, since 1990 and the two married in 2005.
