Morning Man Classic: Jeffrey Hunter!
Did you think I would let an entire Sunday go by without presenting you with a Morning Man Classic?
And boy, was this one worth waiting for!
He’s Jeffrey Hunter, the extraordinarily handsome 50s film and 60s television star who starred in such films as The Searchers, Red Skies of Montana, Sailor of the King, Sargeant Rutledge and The Great Locomotive Chase.
He moved on to television in the 60s in the series Temple Houston on NBC and was cast in the original pilot for Star Trek. He declined to do a second pilot and was replaced by William Shatner.
Hunter, who was married three times – including to first wife, actress Barbara Rush – and had four children.
Sadly, he died in 1969 at the young age of 42. While he was flying back to the U.S. from Spain after filming Viva America! he suffered a stroke. While recovering at his home, he suffered another stroke, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs and sustain a skull fracture.
