Morning Man Classic: Gardner McKay!

How is it I’d never heard of Gardner McKay?

Well, I’ve heard of him now and present him as our Morning Man Classic today – better late than never!

Maybe I had not heard of him because his stardom in the 1950s an0d 60s was relatively brief by his own choice.

He starred for a short time in a TV Western called Boots and Saddles then became a big TV heartthrob in the 1959-62 series Adventures in Paradise.

But after the series, he made only two movies before retiring from acting.

He then became a sculptor, novelist, and playwright. His art work has been displayed at the Museum of Modern Art and he won the L.A. Drama Critics’ Circle Award for his play Sea Marks.

He died of prostate cancer in 2001 at age 69.
