Morning Man Classic: Don Grady!
You never forget your first crushes – even if you didn’t quite realize they were crushes at the time!
All I knew was that as a kid, I couldn’t take my eyes off of some of the TV stars from the 70s like Kent McCord, Ricky Nelson, Michael Douglas and today’s Morning Man Classic: Don Grady!
He played handsome Robbie Douglas on the CBS comedy My Three Sons which starred Fred McMurray as a single dad raising three boys with the help of a male housekeeper/nanny (first played by William Frawley of I Love Lucy fame then by William Demerest). The show ran from 1960 until 1972.
Grady had already gained fame before the series as one of the original Mousketeers on The Mickey Mouse Club show which also featured Annette Funicello. In 1995, I covered a rare reunion of the group at Disneyland (all but an ailing Funicello were present) and I was thrilled to meet Grady who was just ageless looking much like he did as Robbie Douglas!
Well, he’s now 66 and still looking as handsome as ever.
Following the conclusion of My Three Sons, Don dabbled with acting for a little longer, but soon brought his career full-circle and returned to his original love: music. His resumé includes scores for film, DVDs, Universal Studios theme park attractions, and original albums. His most recent release is Disney’s Princess Christmas Album, which sees him writing and producing holiday compositions that combine classic Disney characters with Christmas celebration.
