Morning Man Classic: Davy Jones!’s no wonder why Marcia Brady wanted Davy Jones to sing at her school dance in an episode of The Brady Bunch. And as we all know, Marcia succeeded in getting the former member of The Monkees for the event.

Davy, who is now 65, was quite the heartthrob in the 60s and 70s and still looks pretty good today.

Before The Monkees were created, Davy was already a stage star. He played the Artful Dodger in the West End production of Oliver! The show then moved to Broadway and he was nominated for a Tony Award.

He was a member of The Monkees from 1965-71. The pop-rock group was formed expressly for a TV show of the same name and Jones sang lead on the band’s big hits Daydream Believer and I Wanna Be Free.

After the TV series went off the air, the group disbanded. Jones continued to perform solo and later joining with fellow-Monkee Micky Dolenz and songwriters Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart as a short-lived group called Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart. He has also toured throughout the years with other members as various incarnations of the Monkees.

Wow, is Brent Corrigan copying his look? lol

  3. I would say that Davy Jones probably had Welsh antrecsy, Jones actually being more of a Welsh name than Jewish. His name actually was David Thomas Jones. Thomas also being a very popular name in Wales. So the chances are I think was that he had some Welsh blood in him somewhere. If you want to go for the Jewish angle, look towards the producers, and the writers of their early songs. Jewish names abound from Kirschner to Carol King, Neil Diamond etc … (is that Carol King’s real name, anyway?? I don’t think she is that great a song writer but she did a couple of good ones for The Monkees. Oh and check out her cool appearances on the great Gilmore Girls tv show. Her nasally Jewish New York accent will floor you :D )(see the wikipedia entry for The Monkees for more info … if you can believe wikipedia of course :D )
