Morning Man Classic: Boris Becker!
Boris Becker may have won three Wimbledon titles and a US Open crown in the 1980s, but the happiest and most excited I ever saw him after a match was when he won his first Australian Open title in 1991.
That’s because that four-set win over Ivan Lendl made Becker the number one ranking in men’s tennis for the first time in his illustrious career.
Since today is the day the 2013 Australian Open’s men’s final, I thought I’d feature this most appealing of superstars who also won in Australia in 1996.
Becker, now 45, was always so much fun to watch because of his athleticism and willingness to dive after a shot – even on a hard court!
Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2003, Becker won 49 titles overall including three year-end tour championships and the Olympic Gold Medal in doubles.
