Monday Morning Man: Ryan Doucette!

I had an outstanding time at the Long Beach QFilm Festival over the weekend and will be posting about some of the films I saw and which won awards in a post later today.

But first things first!

This uncommonly beautiful man is actor Ryan Doucette who was on of the stars of the opening movie, Cloudburst.

I was expecting kind of a sad drama but instead it was a touching movie with plenty of comedy. Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker play an aging lesbian couple who escape from a nursing home in Maine and take off to Nova Scotia to be legally married.

They kind of reminded me of Thelma & Louise but instead of picking up a sexy hitchhiker played by Brad Pitt, they picked up a sexy hitchhiker played by Ryan Doucette! And instead of scamming them, he ends up as kind of an adopted son who joins them for their adventure.

Since landing his first major role Cloudburst, Ryan has made three more features: Roaming, The Disappeared and Copperhead.

He describes himself on his Twitter account as an “actor, writer, clown, procrastinator.”

Ryan is from Nova Scotia and began his career performing with a theater troup and appeared in many stage productions in his hometown including a production of Cloudburst.

I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing a lot more about this talented young guy! Here is a LINK to his website.

6 Remarks

  1. The Long Beach QFilm ended with the brillant and wonderful I Do with the director and crew present for Q&A. Winning the Best Film Award of the festival it has no plans of going straight to DVD but is looking for a national distributer to tell its story to a broader audience. I hope this happens and will help the repeal of DOMA through art.

  2. Sam-I think DOMA is on its way out. At least I hope so. It’s such a disgrace that in 2012, in the supposed ‘land of the free’, we are still denied basic rights simply because were gay or lesbian. If DOMA isn’t repealed(fat chance with the GOTP in the House)or deemed unconstitutional by SCOTUS, families like mine will have to find another country to live in. Honestly some days I wonder why we fight so hard to live in a country that we pay taxes to but makes our lives hell.

  3. Wonderful and intelligent comments, Sam and Faen. Unfortunately, most of the people opposed to gay marriage fall into the not-too-bright category. A lot of people use “religion” as their excuse for stupidity.

Anyhow, Cloudburst looks like a great film. It is nice to see Brenda Fricker and Olympia in more interesting roles. Ryan looks like he’s definitely on his way to stardom. Can’t wait to see the film!

Thanks, Greg, for bringing this movie to our attention.

  4. I am still waiting for this wonderful film to appear in local theaters which I have yet to see. When is this coming to Sydney, N.S. and Antigonish?

Ryan Doucette’s sweet, natural energy in Cloudburst is immediately appealing. His initial appearance made me flash on the first time Brad Pitt shows up in Thelma & Louise.
