http://www.zap2it.com/media/photo/2009-07/48373275.jpgI became a big Jon Foster fan during my evening on the set of Accidentally On Purpose last week, the new CBS sitcom that casts him as a twentysomething who finds himself unexpectedly preparing for fatherhood after an older woman he had a brief fling with becomes pregnant.
That woman, a movie critic for a San Francisco newspaper, is played by Jenna Elfman and the 25-year-old Foster told me he is having the time of his life acting opposite her each week.
“I couldn’t ask for a better captain of the ship,” he said. “She’s just so good at what she does and just spearheads every day in a way that makes us all feel so comfortable. With this group of people, we lucked out. I’ve been doing this for 15 years and there’s a lot of awful people in this industry, there’s a lot of great people in the industry and you end up really appreciating it when you end up get a core group of people who when you come into work every day, you actually like who you’re acting with.”
I mention that the sitcom has an unusual premise in that the parents-to-be really don’t know each other well but agree to raise their very unplanned child together whilev living together platonically.

“I think it’s nice because it’s something that does happen and a lot of people don’t really want to talk about it that much,” Jon said. “Ultimately, I really like it because these two people are really great people. They’reĀ  really compassionate and they are really all about standing up for the best possible outcome and trying to be the best people that they can be, really trying their best. I think that’s really good to have that on television. They are role models who may have not done something so fantastic in the get-go but wbo are really great in the outcome.”
I wondered why the 25 year old Jon (his older brother is the terrific actor Ben Foster) decided to do a sitcom when he has had a successful run in films with roles in The Informers, The Door in the Floor, Mysteries of Pittsburgh and the upcoming Tenderness opposite Russell Crowe in which Jon plays a serial killer.
“I’ve been really fortunate,” he said. “But I got really tired of playing sad people. It is a whole other world. I get to come in and have a good time and not sweat blood. It’s so much fun.”

2 Remarks

  1. Hey Greg- Everybody is wondering who should play Prince Harry in the coming biopic-How about Jon he’d be perfect!

  2. Yum, yum, yum… I never knew about Jon until I started watching Accidentally On Purpose. He’s such a cutie; they need to have more shirtless scenes with him.
