Monday Morning Man: Gael Garcia Bernal!

He had me at Y tu mama tambien.

And since then, Gael Garcia Bernal has been stellar in such films as The Motorcycle Diaries, El Crimen del Padre Amaro, Bad Education, Babel, Blindness, and Casa de Mi Padre, among many other films.

But my favorite performance of all, and perhaps it’s because I just saw it last month, is in the Jon Stewart-directed film Rosewater in which Garcia plays journalist Maziar Bahari.

The film recounts Bahari’s 2009 imprisonment by Iran, connected to an interview he participated in on The Daily Show that same year; Iranian authorities presented the interview as evidence that he was in communication with an American spy.

Garcia, 36, is superb in the role and I hope you get a chance to see him in this film.

I’m not sure if it’s still in very many theaters but it should have a DVD release soon.

2 Remarks

  1. Gael is a bad as actor, the moment I hear of something with him in it I can’t wait to see and or buy the film.
He’s not bad to look at either.

  2. First time I saw him was in “Dot the I” and he took my breath away. Always look forward to something new from him.
